This section lists, in alphabetical order, only those who have contributed as authors to the development of the materials already published within the Educachess project.

Once sponsorship or patronage is secured, several leading figures in the field of chess implementation in schools are expected to join the project, with the aim of speeding up the publication of the materials that are still pending.

Farré Vilalta, Imma

PhD in Catalan Philology from the University of Barcelona and Bachelor’s degree from the University of Lleida, she combined literary research with teaching and educational innovation. Awarded the Milà i Fontanals Prize for Literary History (IEC, 2018), she is the author of numerous studies on contemporary Catalan literature and co-author of Catalan language and literature textbooks for secondary education.

She also held management positions in secondary schools, serving as Pedagogical Coordinator, and taught teacher training courses in the field of language and literature didactics.

Her academic and teaching career brings to the Educachess project a pedagogical perspective focused on fostering critical thinking, creativity, and communicative competence—values that align closely with the goals of educational chess.

Fernández Amigo, Joaquín
PhD in Education (UAB). Postgraduate course in Therapeutic Pedagogy (UAB). Postgraduate course in Educational Orientation and Tutorial. Support (UNED) AjEdu (Chess and Education) Project Coordinator and Designer.

(UAB 2005-2015) Contributor and Prologue Writer. International Lecturer in Educational Chess and Workshops. Vice President of the Paretana d’Escacs Chess Association (Associació Paretana d’Escacs-APDE, 2006-2011) .Coordinator of Parets del Vallès Local Chess Club (1993-2002).

He has been an advisor to the Catalan Chess Federation (FCE) and a Level 1 Educational Chess Instructor (Catalan School of Sport – ECE).

García del Rosario, Apolonio Domingo

Graduate in Educational Sciences. Specialist in Social Sciences.

A pioneer in the introduction of chess as an educational tool in the Canary Islands, he was responsible, from the 1994/1995 to the 2007/2008 academic years, for the project Chess at School, whose development and benefits for students were monitored and later endorsed by a research program from the Department of Psychology and Pedagogy at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Author of several books and publications in educational journals. Director of the First Inter-School Seminar for the introduction of chess in Canary Islands schools during the 2013–2014 academic year.

In 2016–2017, he led the project Learning to Think, approved by the Educational Innovation Department of the Canary Islands Government’s Ministry of Education.

He has shared his experience as a lecturer in teacher training seminars and staff meetings, contributing to the introduction of chess in schools as an educational tool.

Martínez Serrano, Gustavo

Deputy Director General of Educational Centers of the Department of Education, Culture, Universities and Employment of the Valencian Government, and Education Inspector.

PhD in Physical and Sports Education from the University of Valencia, awarded summa cum laude. Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, Master’s Degree in Research and Intervention in Physical Activity and Sports Sciences, and Diploma in Teaching from the same university. He completed his academic training with degrees in Law and in Political Science and Public Management from the International University of La Rioja.

Author and creator of Xecball, an innovative sport inspired by chess, he has developed his teaching, research, and outreach work in the fields of physical activity, sport, and strategic thinking.

He has participated as a speaker in numerous seminars, congresses, and conferences, and is the author of several books and scientific articles. His career combines reflection on chess as an educational tool with the analysis of its parallels in politics and contemporary society.

Mayorga, Nistal

Multidisciplinary artist born in León and based in Bilbao (Spain). In recent years, she has focused her work on chess and portraiture.

This game —at once sport, science, and art— currently occupies much of her time and dedication, to the point that she has become known as the painter of chess players.

She has exhibited her work in countries such as Colombia, Cuba, Spain, the United States, and Hungary, and some of her creations are permanently displayed in emblematic venues.

Monreal Aladrén, Miriam
Graduate in Therapeutic Pedagogy and Bachelor’s Degree in Psychopedagogy.

Coordinator of the Chess at School program in Aragon and teacher trainer.

Lecturer in Chess Didactics at the Faculty of Education of Zaragoza. Educational. Chess teacher at CPI Soledad Puértolas. Lecturer at the UNED in Tudela in the Educational Chess Training Program. Trainer of teachers in Teacher Training Centers in Aragon, León, and Alicante.

Oliva, Alejandro

I like music, theatre, poetry, and chess. I’m passionate about reading and always imagine new stories.

I write songs with lyrics that talk about this wonderful game, and we perform them in schools, public squares, and many other places.

I also worked as a teacher and served as the Pedagogical Coordinator of the School Chess Program under the Ministry of Education of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires.

Osorio Carpeño, Jesús

Former President of the Sajedrín Chess Club in Cabezón de la Sal (Cantabria). Chess instructor.

He was the driving force and promoter of the Educational Chess Project (Ministry of Education) developed at IES Valle del Saja in Cabezón de la Sal.

He also participated as a speaker in the AjEdu virtual congresses and works as an officer at the Department of Education of Cantabria.

He received musical training at a conservatory in Madrid and took part in international classical guitar courses (Laredo–Normandy). He also worked as a mountain initiation instructor at the Madrilenian School of High Mountain, and promoted sports and nature-related activities in various educational institutions.

Prió Burgués, Jordi

Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and Postgraduate Degree in the Didactics of Mathematics.

Senior Professor of Mathematics at Secondary and Upper Secondary Education at at INS “Ciutat de Balaguer”. Director of the EDUCACHESS project and President of the International Association for the Promotion of Chess (AIDE).

Specialist speaker in Educational Chess, he has participated in conferences, seminars, and teacher training sessions, sharing experiences on the integration of chess into education.

He has delivered teacher training courses on information and communication technologies and chess didactics, organized by the Department of Education of the Government of Catalonia.

Chess instructor and arbiter of the Catalan Chess Federation, he has also worked as a trainer of chess instructors within the same federation.

Sánchez Gómez, Enrique

Teacher and trainer with a long career in the teaching of educational chess.
In 2007, he was the creator and coordinator of the “Chess at School” programme promoted by the Government of Aragón, through which many teachers introduced chess as a pedagogical tool in their classrooms.

He has played a key role in the promotion of educational chess, delivering training courses, seminars, and lectures for teachers, and sharing his experience on the value of chess as a cross-curricular resource for students’ cognitive and social development.

With more than fifty years of experience in the world of chess, he is the founder of the Marcos Frechín Chess Club in Zaragoza, with which his school became Spanish School Champion. He has also been the coach of young chess talents, including the current Spanish Under-7 Champion, Enzo Millán.

Torra Bernat, Ramon

Agricultural Engineer. Master’s Thesis completed through the Erasmus Program at Wageningen, Netherlands (2005–2006). Research period at Iowa State University, United States (2006).

Chess instructor certified by the Catalan Chess Federation.

He was the Director of the Balaguer School of Chess (EDEBA) (1998–2004), which offered chess lessons in schools across Balaguer and its surrounding area, being responsible for the training and coordination of instructors.

Vidal Martín, Miguel Ángel

Degree in Mathematics from the University of Santiago de Compostela (1992). Teacher of Mathematics and Educational Chess (graded subject) in Galicia.

He developed the official curriculum for the elective subject of Chess in Secondary Education (ESO) for the Regional Government of Galicia (Xunta de Galicia), a graded subject taught during regular school hours.

Promoter of Mathematics through Origami and Chess, he has participated in TEDxGalicia, at the National Museum of Science and Technology, in Maker Faire Galicia (inventors’ fair), and in the Innovative Science Communication Meetings D+I in Zaragoza, among others.

Author of books and popular science articles on Mathematics, Chess, and Origami, published, among others, in Cuadernos de Pedagogía magazine and by Santillana Colombia.

Vilela de Acuña, José Luis

International Master (IM) in Chess and graduate in Electrical Engineering.

He has been coach of the Cuban National Team and other national teams from the Central American region. He has also worked as a Chess Professor at the Latin American Higher Institute of Chess (ISLA) in Havana.

Regular contributor to international chess publications such as Chess Informant (Serbia), New in Chess (Netherlands), Jaque (Spain), among others.
