This educational project intends to contribute to the integral education of the pupils in the primary educational centres ( 6 to 12 years old) using the model of multiple intelligences.
It presents a series of contents and activities, grouped in four blocks, to boost the intellectual abilities and the emotional intelligence, and likewise, to promote values and the linguistic and cultural diversity.
The game of chess has been chosen as center of interest of these materials because it promotes the development of the multiple intelligences. Thus, playing chess is taught simultaneously and in a very elementary way, with the aim that the pupils can regularly practice this sport, as it is very interesting to acquire the habit of doing mental gymnastics.
Therefore, the intention is to contribute to the diffusion, justification, introduction, universality and normalization of chess in the educational centres as pedagogical tool. Learning chess will thus be a consequence of the realization of the project and not a priority aim.
In the section Advantages of Chess, there is an enumeration of the abilities that are boosted, the values which are taught and the habits which are acquired with the study and practice of this game.
Mainly, with the enhancement of the ability of attention and concentration, the improvement of logical reasoning and the acquisition of the habit of being in silence, the studying habits are reinforced, which contributes to improve school performance.
These benefits have been verified in different and multiple investigations and experiences with school pupils all over the world since the beginnings of the 20th century.
The educational world is always in continuous evolution and searches for new methodologies and strategies in order to satisfy the needs of the pupils´ diversity, either for the ones having a handicap, or for those who could learn more. Thus, with the introduction of chess in the educational centres during the first years of school, an improvement in the quality of education and a decrease of school failure would be achieved.
