This innovative project is periodically renewed. At present, new contributions from neuroeducation are being incorporated, while the methodology of gamification and the use of hands-on workshops are being strengthened, with the aim of facilitating the implementation of educational chess in schools. In addition, computational thinking has been incorporated to enhance competency-based learning and to foster the development of cognitive and creative skills through a more metacognitive approach.
In other words, it uses the same didactic approach as the current Creative Pre-Chess project, which is already fully available for implementation in early childhood education.
Therefore, three teacher’s books are offered, one for each cycle of primary education, with all the activities for each of the units in each year. Likewise, the six books in the Play and Learn collection —student material for self-assessment and portfolio work— are being restructured and expanded in order to include more exercises and challenges corresponding to the new types of activities designed for this new Play and Learn project.
All the resources needed to carry out the students’ multilevel activities can be found in the complementary materials: Chess Stories (comics), Tocada Movida (songs), Active Mind (dossiers on cognitive skills), workshop sheets (downloadable PDFs) and Research (dossiers on metacognitive learning in chess).
Optionally, other contents may be worked on more specifically using the resources presented in the books from the Educational Chess and Chess Educational Resources collections, as well as the Feel and Apply materials.
