General information
Play and learn is a project that aims to contribute to the integral education of students in primary schools (6 to 12 years old) using the Universal Learning Design (SAD) model and the transdisciplinarity of chess.

This innovative project is renewed periodically. Currently, the new contributions of neuroeducation are being incorporated, the gamification methodology and the use of manipulative workshops are being promoted much more, in order to facilitate the implementation of educational chess in schools.

That is, the same didactic approach applied in the current creative pre-chess project is used, which is now fully available for implementation in the children’s stage.

Therefore, three books of the teaching staff are offered, one for each cycle of the stage, with all the activities for each of the units of each course. Likewise, the six books of the Play and Learn collection (self-assessment and portfolio material) are being restructured and expanded to incorporate more exercises and challenges corresponding to the new types of activities designed for this new project Play and Learn.

All the resources necessary to carry out the multilevel activities of the students are found in the complementary materials: Stories on chess (comics), Tocada Movida (songs), Active Mind (dossiers on cognitive abilities), sheets for the workshops (PDF downloadable) and Research (dossiers on metacognitive chess learning).

Optionally, other contents may be worked on more specifically from the resources exposed in the books of the educational Chess collections, educational chess resources and the Sent and Aplica materials.

Teacher books

There is a book for teachers in each of the three cycles of the primary stage.

Each book is structured in three blocks. In the first, the theoretical part on which the project is based in the cycle is exposed. In the second, the objectives, the contents, the structure of the units, the typologies of the activities, the evaluative resources… And, in the third, all the activities for each of the units of the two years of the corresponding cycle are presented.

Sent and Apply Dossiers

The initial proposal, conceived with a transversal chess approach, included the following eleven themes.

Emotional education Entrepreneurship
Education in values Communication
Creativity Common welfare economy
Existential intelligence Culture of peace
Promoting happiness Ecology and sustainability
Health education

Each of these themes was structured into 48 dossiers, one for each month of the school year (from October to May) throughout the entire primary education stage. At the end of this subsection, two representative examples of these dossiers are shown.

In the new Play and Learn project, with a transdisciplinary approach and making use of generative artificial intelligence technologies, all this material is reorganized: themes are grouped, the number of materials is reduced, titles are updated, and new audiovisual formats are offered, with the aim of creating more innovative and accessible educational narratives.
