The following text is an introduction to EDUCACHESS; an international, multilingual and humanitarian project which we expect to spread across schools, community centres and nursing homes alike. This project will act upon the educational, sport, ludic and charitable fields, based on the pedagogical model of the multiple intelligences.

Chess has been chosen as the main subject of interest in this cross-curricular project, as it is the ideal game for exercising most of our intellectual abilities. Our objectives are much more ambitious than simply teaching chess. We intend, among other things, to contribute towards the comprehensive education of people (students and adults alike), establish bonds between schools, collect funds for charitable causes, etc.
To ensure people’s awareness of the project and its successful application, a wealth of learning material has been created. It will be free of charge, multilingual, educational, easy to apply, useful, attractive and multidisciplinary, created with the aim that it may be broadened and updated in a cooperative and nonprofit way by its users (teachers, students, instructors, etc.). This learning material will be available for all to use as PDF files and interactive multimedia, programmed in HTML 5. This means that the material will be accessible on any computer with an internet connection. Due to the project’s cooperative updating nature, once it’s under way, all the learning material will belong to everyone and be available for everyone.
At EDUCACHESS we would like to formally request UNESCO’s support and recognition, as our intention is to contribute to their currently active programmes: “Education for all” and “Cultural diversity and multilingualism”.
Currently, the project has received the support, among others, from the European Commissioner of education, culture, multilingualism and youth; Mrs Androulla Vassiliou and from the former General Director of UNESCO; Mr Federico Major Saragossa. The rest of the institutional support can be found on the website in each language.
More information can be found in other sections of this website. We also dispose of other supplementary and more detailed documentation of the project, which we will update in the very near future.
